About the Event - Tyagaraja Aradhana

The Tyagaraja Aradhana is a tribute to the18th century saint-like bard of Thiruvaiyaru, Sri Tyagaraja. The Aradhana is held every year on the beautiful campus of the Sri Meenakshi Temple in Pearland, Texas. The annual Aradhana includes a traditional Unchavriti procession around the temple from the Rama Sannidhi to the temple auditorium. The procession is led by a “Tyagaraja” with devotees carrying a beautiful chaparam with bronze idols of the Ramaparivar decorated by the temple priests, and with those in procession singing Sri Tyagaraja’s Utsava Sampradaya Krithis. Rendition of Sri Tyagaraja's Pancharatna Krithis by Houston area musicians and individual singers paying homage to the saint through his compositions throughout the weekend follows at the Kalyana Mantapam Auditorium. This festival draws over two hundred singers, young and old, from in and around Houston. Several proficient youngsters get their first concert experience performing mini-concerts during the Aradhana. Classical Arts is proud to provide a platform for local students of music through this festival. Classical Arts is indebted to the Houston area Carnatic music teachers who play a large role in the success of the Tyagaraja Aradhana each year.
